Post subject:  Headliner Installation

I found out that it is going to be a month before my headliner gets to me. I was waiting to have my windshield put in till after i got the headliner in but now that it is going to be so long, i really want to get my car on the road. My headliner was originally the card board type but i am going to get an abs plastic replacement from legendary auto interiors.

Can you put a headliner in with the windshield in? Thanks for the help.

I put a headliner in before the windshield. If I had it to do over again, I would probably do the windshield first. I know I had some issues getting the headliner to secure in the back window. Once the glass was in, I was able to securely tuck it. The gasket worked like a third hand. Plus, with the windshield in, you know where it needs to be tucked before you trim it.

Good luck,
John

I don't know if the ABS headliner is constructed identically to the old-style cardboard one in my son's '74 Dart Sport, but we put his in before installing the glass. As fragile as the material is on this one, we couldn't run the risk of trying to push and prod it under a window gasket. I think you might be OK with the firmer ABS, even maybe use a tool to slide along the edge to lift up the flap of the gasket.
