I am looking to build an engine for my truck, and would like to go with a /6 built for low end torque. What would be the best (least expensive) rout to go?

It basically depends on how much torque you want and how you want to apply it to the road. The cheapest way would be to buy an engine someone already had built up, especially if you could get one for $2500 or so...and I don't mean "remanufactured". Unfortunately those of us who have a truly "built" engine love em and hold em. Search the posts on this forum. Your engine has to breathe (cam, valves, head, and induction) and get HP from each gram of fuel..bore, compression, fire, timing. YOu won't go wrong with the Erson cam deal (lifters, springs) the engnbldr valves, HEI or Pertronix, good wires, milled head, and good plugs, plus a super six or Holley 8007. But that just touches the surface. My truck will break your neck now and smoke both 750 rear tires with positraction. SO of course now I lust for more boost...be careful, you may get hooked.

The rebuild cost about $2000 with all the machining, porting, balancing, grinding, new engine mounts, oil pump, distributor, carb, etc..... I had the short block done per my specs and assembled the rest myself.

My engine has so much power after the rebuild I can break the wheels loose no problem. They are P235 60's and a 2.76 8 3/4 Posi in a 3420 pound car.
