Post subject:  difference between 170 and 225

Recently I purchased a slant motor assuming that it was a 225, but to make sure I wanted to measure it, but the only measurement I can find is that the 170 is 1" shorter than the 225... But what does a 170 measure?

Look at the hose going from the water pump to the head, on a 170 it is about 2" long on a 225 it is about 3" long.
It would be more accurate to just clean the pad on the spark plug side of the block above spark plug #1 and read the numbers.
A 225 is a "stroked" 170. The bores are the same but the 225 has a 1 inch longer piston stroke.

Note: These are both on a 225.

Post subject:  Thanx, slantvaliant!

Hey, slantvaliant, just wanted to say thanx for also answering my question before I even asked! Really appreciate the photos! My 1st day here. I have a '66 'Cuda with a non-stock /6. It had a /6 stock, according to steel stamp on inside driver fender, but this one has EGR, which is 70's. I can't wait to go outside tomorrow to see tag under plug #1, and bipass hose. Also, I may need to replace tranny, but not sure what year. I see a stamp on center driver's side of block in large letters 0174. Does that mean Jan., 1974? Love your quote: "Those @#$% engineers!"
