im changing the rear axles to the bbp and i have the correct axles and drum hats but the car has 9 in. rear drums, small bolt pattern. can i use the shoes and hardware off of the 9in. drums and just transfer everything over(shoes, springs, wheel cylinders, ect.) to the 10 in. drum backing plate?or does the 10in. use a different shoe?also i didnt get the charger stuff, went to a different yard and found a 70's valiant and stole everything off of that |

You can't use the axles, backing plates or anything else you bought on the small bolt pattern 7 1/4. The 7 1/4 housing was made narrower to accommodate the 2 1/2" wide brakes. This means the axle bearing to flange dimension is different from the small bolt pattern axles to get the same overall track width. Of course you can't use a 9" shoe in a 10" drum. You need to go back and get the axle housing out of that Valiant. Should have bought the whole axle assembly first time 'round. |

whoa there,, the newer 10" brakes were also 2-1/2" wide. I'm assuming its on a 75 duster going by your sig. Joshy is right. youd have probably been better getting the whole rear out of the JY. But, on a 75 model, being that both the 9 or 10" shoes woulda been the same width, your axle housing will probably be fine. |

on a related note, is there any small things that are needed to use the K-H disc brake stuff? things like bearings, hoses, different seals things like that? the only reason i ask, is because i asked my auto shop teacher if i could do it in class and he asked me to make sure that i had EVERYTHING and that i wasent going to be missing anything so is there any small items that need changing or are needed? |
