I am going to buy a 1976 Dodge Dart Sport(spirit of 76) with a slant six 4 speed o.d I was under the impression that ALL 1976 a bodys came with front disc brakes??? The owner of the car says it has 10 in. drums with the SBP all the way around,is this possible?

Some/a fair amount of the A-bodies previous to 1-1-1976 were optioned with SBP drum brakes (in fact I know of 2 Feather Dusters that were made early in the '76 model year and came with 10" drums/SBP and 3 spd floor shift manuals....)

The factory made things mandatory (but some may have slipped through in Jan. or Feb...depending on the assembly line boredom and spare parts) for Disc Brakes starting in 1-1-76 on the build date...

check the build date on the tag, it may be pre-12-75

Still a good car to get and not an easy option package to find any more!

Thanks! Would I be able to swap disc brakes onto this car? How would I go about doing so? What parts should I get used and what parts should I get new? Also I know that this is the wrong section,but do you know how hard it is to rebuild the A-833 o.d? Something I could do myself(I have fair mechanical skills,and can follow direction/diagrams), or should I have a shop do it? Also where would I buy the parts to rebuild it?

A disk brake swap isn't that hard. Rebuild the suspension while you're at it and have fun!

Use new bushings and brake hoses. Think about a new versus rebuilt master cylinder and calipers. You'll have to replace the master cylinder anyway, so get a good one. If you have any doubt about the tie rod ends and sleeve, go new there, too.

I don't know about the transmission parts, but most brake and suspension parts are readily available from several places: Rock Auto, Mancini, PST, MP Brakes, SSBC, Suspensions Only, etc. Even Ebay if you're brave.
