Hi all, I'm new to this site. I'm considering converting my /6 auto 67' Barracuda to /6 4 speed. I found a complete set-up from a 75' Dart, but my research indicates the flywheel and bellhousing are not going to jive. The flywheel is my biggest concern, because on this site it says there were no /6 4 speeds from 67-74. If this is correct, what flywheel would fit my crank, and would my crank even be drilled for a 4 speed? The 4 speed I have is a non-overdrive unit with the 4.35" IBR, so I guess I would have to have a machine shop make a spacer to fit the overdrive bellhousing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. get a correct 833 bellhousing for /6 and you are done. You'll need a 122 tooth fluwheel, small crank hub size. I'm adapting a 4 speed as well and I got all the things but I need to send the flywheel to a machine shop to have the hole enlargened to fit my later large crank hub size. You'll need a new pilot bushing or bearing, but if you stay with the small crank hub there's only bushing (pilot bearing being an option for large crank hub) If you haven't got the floor hump yet, save yourself a hassle and go with the oval hole hump (later) because rubber boots fot round hole humps (early style) are a hard to get item. we were working on it with menko ('62 lancer) but I fell behind timing due to family issues. for the bellhousing part, I don't see why your '75 dart unit wouldn't do the job. It might be a bolt on deal (except for the flywheel thing) You also need complete clutch linkage, Z bar, and clutch/brake pedal assembly from the donor car. The 833 you got is slip yoke or ball and trunion? the yoke is different from the 904 one, but IIRC the driveshaft lenght is the same. Also, you'll have to wire your starter relay i.o. to get it cranking. I installed a switch so it serves as theft deterrant device (if you have no ground on the lower, right contact on your starter relay, the car won't even crank) I also have a safety switch on the clutch pedal so if your not stepping on the clutch the car won't start (I used a brake lights switch) also a manual 4 on the floor column... |
