Post subject:  help!!!!!!!!!!!!! clutch problems

i just posted this over at sweptline.org, but figured since it's kinda' slant six related somebody here may be able to help:

 can anyone help me out? i have a '68 longbed that i've been working on for the past couple of weeks. this is my first venture with a dodge p/u. it has a /6, 3 sp., and is two wheel drive. when i bought the truck i was told it was all original, except it has a factory reman. engine. i now have my doubts. anyway, it needs a new clutch. i purchased one clutch before i pulled the old one out. i got it for a '68, so it was a 10" clutch. when i pulled the old one out it was an 11" disc. no big deal, i figured they put a later flywheel on when they swapped engines so it would take the bigger clutch. so i got another one for a '69 with the 11" disc. i tried to put that one in today and the throwout bearing is way too small for the bearing retainer(?) on the tranny. i am now out of ideas. the t.o. bearing that came with the clutch kit is something like 1 3/8" and the old one is 1 3/4". someone must have put a different tranny in the truck at one time too. if anyone can tell me what the transmission is, it would be so greatly appreciated. the only numbers i could find on the trans. are: C95323 7AF (pass. side in front of the fill plug) and C-96708 (tailshaft pass. side)

i really want to drive my truck and i'm getting tired of buying the wrong parts. thanks for any help you can offer, brian

Post subject:  Brian, see if you have an A745

Brian,

The trucks used an A745 for a long time before adding in the newer 3 speed. Look in a manual for pictures and see if yours is that tranny. That will get you to the TOB...oh the 745 is a 3 speed with shift levers on the side of driver side of the tranny.
