I have located some two barrel carbs that all are in NEED OF REBUILDING I am trying to put together a super six my question is which carb would you chose. I am concerned about the Carter BBD because they are know for throttle bushing wear causing vacuum leaks. I am leaning towards the Holley 2280, but I am open to suggestions. thanks Jim |

ALL carburetors will eventually wear the throttle shaft/bushing junction, creating vacuum leaks. The BBD is no more or less prone to it than the 2280, and the fix in all cases is the same: Bore and rebush! A BBD in good condition is better than a 2280 in poor condition. A 2280 in good condition is better than a BBD in poor condition. They're both decent carb designs. |

being a holley guy, I have to chime in about the spare parts for 2280's, they're a pain in the butt to get (at least down here) so given the chance between 2280 and BBD I'd go with BBD, if we were talking BBD vs 2300 I'll take the 2300 anytime. |

Thanks Dan I guess it will come down to which one I can get the better deal on. I am going to taking a guess as to which one is in better condition when I saw them they were all in the back of an old van in buckets. I am not sure years of the carbs so getting a rebuild kit will be a challenge I am sure, but this will be reflected in the price if I am any good at negotiating. |

How About CFM for The Mid 70's 318 BBD Before they downsized them to the Supersix Venturi Size? It's about 280 cfm, the 318 BBD is the same size as the supersix one all the way through (though the plates may have one or both plates punched with a hole for better idle quality). There are a few Big Block BBD's out there that have the bigger bores (I have one off a 413 '67 Dodge Dump Truck... my buddy's truck took a crap, and I was lucky enough to save his bacon with a 1967 Stromberg I'll never use) it has the same bolt pattern as the Holley 2210/2245 series carbs and is a monster compared to the little BBD we all are familiar with... -D.Idiot |
