Post subject:  Question about bigger valves and how much to pay for them

There are a couple of auctions for slant 6 valves on ebay right now. Click here for a link to one of the auctions.

My question is - does this auction sound like a good deal on those valves? Another question is - Is 1.70 the biggest valve you can put in a 225 head? and how much modification is needed to make the bigger valve work?[/url]

It's not the biggest valve but it is a good size. I am putting 1.8 and 1.6 valves in mine, but were also boring it on the plus side of 100 over. The price seems good.

Those are the ones I bought but I don't have them installed yet. They appear to be of good quality and the price is fair.

You can buy SBC 1.72/1.50 valves from Summit Racing for cheap....get the Chev springs and retainers while you are at it.

Guys have paid $300 for those "last big slant valves on the planet" on EBAY....caveat emptor

Last week there was a post from the seller about mixed up valves.

I got my 1.7/1.44 valves from SI for $10 each, maybe a hair more.

That $300 deal was not the fault of the seller. He stated he had "cases" of the valves. A couple of bidders just got into a war over one auction.

About the mixed up valves, mistakes can happen, and the seller was doing everthing he could to correct the problem, even before the buyers knew there was a problem.

PS: I bought 1 set of the valves, and 1 kit, which included the bronze guides.

It was pretty clear to me that the seller was a little uncomfortable with the results of that first auction and included additional merchandise for the buyer after the fact. From then on he included a "Buy It Now" button on his auctions. $89.00 plus shipping is a fair price for a full set of valves with locks. Additionally, his shipping was prompt and accurate. I would buy from him again if I need something he sells.

I'll also say I bought the valves on eBay from Enginebuilder or however his eBay ID is spelled and got what I ordered right away for less than $100. They are still in the box all wrapped up in plastic. Now I have to go out to the garage and clean the dump so I can get some work done.

Thanks for the input y'all. What is the biggest you can go for intake and exhaust without causing shrouding problems and/or weakening the seats? I am trying to get a list together of wants for a build up of a boosted efi slant.

I've purchased one kit from this seller and I highly recommend him. Valves are high quality (not MP, they say "arrow" or something) bronze quides are beautifully machined, and they have serrated lock side end to facilitate the use of teflon seals (they were included in the kit) and the kit also has excellent quality locks. Got mine shipped down to argentina for $130 total. I'd call that a deal.
