Post subject:  Tire clearance

How much clearance should I maintain arould the rear tire to avoid rubbing the quarter lip. Mearsuring for new wheels. Does the rearend move side to side that much?

The rear moves and the tires deform.

This much works for me ('64 Valiant rear):

That works for me too. In my case that means 235/60/14.

One finger means 245/60/14 and they rub with a heavy load (5 people and snowboarding gear) and hard cornering.( I live in the Land of Corners and Hills)

But 6.50/13 never rubbed.....~~~~~

The pic shows a 205-60R15 on a 15X7 with 13mm offset, stock '64 four-door sedan rear wheelwell.
