Hello everyone, This is a first for me on this forum. I have checked (enjoyed) it many times but never joined. I have a question about turbo cams. I'm building a single turbo 225ci and I'm in need of a cam. The people at Clifford claim I need a 106 - 108 lobe center with a "flip flop design" aggressive duration at .050 and lift. The people at Lunati say go with a 114 lobe center and a mild duration and lift. I've always heard that a 114 lobe center is the best for a turbo or blower for many reasons but Clifford says the 6 cyliders need the 106-108 lobe centers to create heat, exhaust force, to spin the turbo. Desired rpm is 6000 - 6500. 15psi boost to start with and work myself up to 25 psi or so. Any suggestions on what cam I should use? Head is ported w/ custom header, hyperpack intake, 4500 stall convertor, 727 trans, 4.30 rear, 650 mighty demon, T70 turbo, greddy waste gate and BOV. Thanks and Later.

The wide lobe center combined with a mild duration and lift is the way to go when using a turbo.
Stay away from Clifford, they do not design or grind cams.
Make a few more calls to cam grinders and "take notes", you will find that 'in the know" cam grinders will keep a turbo cam pretty mild.
A short overlap event (wide lobe centers) is needed to keep the boosted A/F mixture from from blowing thru during TDCE.

All Clifford does is take orders until they get enough for a run. Nothing is designed or built in house. Used to go through the same crap with Kenne-Bell when I raced a Buick. :shock:

They insisted they were right even when I suggested the 114 lobe centers. They were also more expensive and needed a core.

Say, what is the quickest ET for a full bodied A-body slant 6? And who is it? Just curious.

Would the Stock Super Six Cam - 76-80 Be any good for turbo Use?

I dont know much in the way of cam design other than Just Lift and duration.

I understand all the other stuff like lobe seperation, but not as well.

I purchased a turbo cam from Engle. TCS-5 114 Lobe centers, intake 227, exhaust 222. I still havent installed the cam yet, but I've running the turbo for about 3 months.

I talked to a guy at Elgin cams and filled out a form with my combo but they haven't returned my call. That was about three weeks ago. I'll have to call again. What lift does that cam have from Engle and about what did it cost? Later.
