I installed new brakes lines on my Valiant, and practically everywhere there is a fitting it leaks! I've tightened as far as I dare to, but yet when I come back the next day the fittings are wet! Nothing so far as leaving puddles or even drips (except for the fittings into the prop valve, that area is giving me the most trouble). I'd call it more like seeping, rather than leaking. It seems the only places it doesn't seep are where the lines hook up to the brake hoses, which are steel inverted flares. Every other joint coupling and the prop valve is brass. Perhaps I'm having trouble due to the softness of the brass to get a good metal to metal seal? Well, now that I think of it, I even have seepage at the rear wheel cylinders, and dry on the brass block mounted on the rear axle, so that doesn't conform to this theory. ???Suggestions??? Thanks! |

What kind of lines did you get, stainless? You may need to go through many loosen/tighten cycles to get the lines to sit properly 100%, especially with tougher material like stainless. I'd say loosen and tighten the joint two or three times then see if it still seeps. |

Did you double flare the ends of the brake lines?? |

No, they are not stainless. I will probably go the ss route in the future though. Yes, I did double flare. I went around a couple more times, tightening up all fittings a bit more each time. I also gave the brake pedal a press each time to put pressure on the lines, then let it set and came back to check. So far no leaks! Well, couple areas seemed to be a bit wet with fluid, but I think that's just a bit of filmy residue where I didn't get the line completely wiped off from the previous leaks. Still seems strange that I had to tighten it up so much like that. I've replaced lines on a couple other vehicles before (but never a completely new system) and never had seepage like this. Thanks! |

I've encountered the same problem, especially when using stainless lines. I now regularly put a **small** amount of liquid teflon sealant on the back side of the flair and on the threads. I seem to remember that Fine Lines, the co. that made my stainless brake lines, recommended it. It also prevents the nut from sticking to the flair when you go to take it apart after a long time. |
