Post subject:  rear end swap
Hello

I have a question about my 1973 Duster A body I changed the rear end to the LBP but the rear is short and my disk brakes make my front wheel stick out feather then my rear wheels, what can I do to correct this so that my rear and front are evan, is the a rear end that will plug in ??

I was at pull a part I found a 1973 valiant with 14" tires and front disk brakes this confused me because I thought only the 1973 had disk brakes is the spindle the same as the 73 models ??

A trick the engineers used on the 1973-1976 A-body was to make the front "track" (width between the tires) slightly wider than the rear track to aid in turning the heavier car and supposedly make the car slightly more stable.... :roll:

Your interchange for front spindles is any 1973-1976 Dart/Duster/Valiant/Scamp/Dart Sport, as is the rear axle from said car of appropriate wheel bolt pattern. In 1976 disk brakes became mandatory on A-bodies after 1/1/76 in the build date, they were optional before that...

Other than aesthetics, is there a problem with the front track being wider than the rear? A wide front track can aid handling. Early A '62 to '72 rears were wider, but were also SBP. Beware - the various Mopar rear ends (7.25, 8.25, 8.75, etc) may require different drive shaft lengths.

Now I'm confused by your question. Disk brakes were available before '73, but they were a different system. There are several knuckles out there (The spindle is part of the knuckle) - maybe someone with better reference material than I have can give a complete list.

Thanks for the reply

I got all the parts from a 1973 Valiant everything pluged in fine I was just wondering about the rear end being shorter and the wheels sit in about 3-4 inches what are my options if any? After reading other post I thought I could find a rearend with the same width tracking and alinement as the front wheels! I guess it's just the Style of the car body that the duster is wider then the Valiant rearend is , it just looks wacked or my front tires are to big 15 by 60" I will send a photo later

Sorry about the confussesion I thought disk brakes came only in the LBP in 1973.
