| Post subject: | Fuel rail group buy?? - UPDATED with price |
How many on here would be interested in the following group buy. EFI fuel rail made from dash 6 rail. Machined for the injector as well as the reatining clip that holds the injector in the rail like most new cars. The spacing would be as follows: 4" - 4" - 2" - 4" - 4"(measured from center of injector to center of injector) with an 1.5" section on each end made for an -6AN female o-ring fitting. The overall length would be 21.5" and this will fit the straight section of each slant 6 manifold I have seen as well as custom manifold with straight runners. I do not know price yet but would like to get an idea on demand before pursing this further. Tom |

Why not, I have to start with something. I'll just base all the other purchases around the rail! |

What about the hold downs to tie it to the manifold? |

What about a fuel pressure regulator? |

I'd be interested, depending on the price. It'd have to be around $80 less; that's what another place quoted me (though we didn't get into specifics like the type of threads on the ends). |

I not sure you could come up with one spot to please everyone and this is an easy thing to mount to whatever manifold you would run.

Tom, I am very interested, as I have a single 4-barrel manifold sitting out in the garage with a 3.8L GM throttle body bolted to it. Have in mind the DiBiase conversion using the GM computer. All I need is the fuel rail to make it complete. Will this be fabricated for the GM/Bosch injectors? As someone already asked, will it have provisions for the stock-type GM fuel pressure regulator? Keep me informed, please. Roger |

Not sure what you mean by this. We mount our regulator after the rail, bolt it to the fire wall and run a short hose from the AN fitting on the rail to the regulator. Are you wanting the regulator to mount directly to the end of the rail?? If so why?Yes it would be for bosh style injectors. I have a few pictures that I will load on my website tomorrow so that you can see how the rail will be made. It shows the retaining clip on the pressure side of the injector that allows you to remove the rail complete with injectors and not worry about pressure forcing the injector out. The pictures will also show two examples on how to mount this type of rail. The only manifold that I see a problem with is the Clifford manifold with the injector pads already formed into it. #1,2,5 and 6 runner have the pad located on the outside of the runner and not in the center. There is room behind the pad to mount an injector bung or you could machine the pad off and make more room. All the other manifolds including stock would work with this spacing. Tom |

I am interested depending on price. I hate to say that, but from what I keep hearing a good carb is just as good as an EFI set up as far as horsepower numbers are concerned. that and the TOTAL cost of switching to EFI seems pricey, since I would need to get a laptop and learn how to program the thing, and I have quite a bit to learn on the subject. but I have seen your work and am sure it would be a quality unit for a reasonable price. |

OK here are a few pictures. The rail on the manifold is the exact rail described above. The short piece is made just like it but for another application. You can see two different ways of mounting it as well as the locking slot to hold the injector in place even after the rail is removed from the manifold. http://www.drakecoatings.com/images/rail2.jpg http://www.drakecoatings.com/images/rail3.jpg http://www.drakecoatings.com/images/manifold1.jpg Tom |

*********************************************************Tom, I think MpgMike and I are thinking along the lines of using the OE type regulator that does mount to the end of the fuel rail, not unlike the connection between the injector and rail, but with the addition of a fastener. It's also vac referenced, which I planned on using until my learning curve improved to the point I could work with bigger/better/faster equipment. I understand what you're doing, though, and am still very interested. Roger |

Ok. Ours is vac/boost refernced as well. I am sure you could adapt it to the AN fitting on the end with the correct fitting or with a short length of hose. Tom |
