I know some of you own vans. How do you remove the engine? Does it come out the passenger door, or do you have to pull the whole front clip?

usually you have to pull the front end out (just the grill rad core support)but to do it this way you will nee an engine lift with a long reach (or an extension poll if you lift will support the weight) or you might be able to pull the k frame out and drop it out the bottom

What year van. Over the years I've done the motor on my 71 maxi twice. The first time young a dumb, I took the engine out the passenger side door. I'll never do that again. Takes about two hours to take the front end off then use a cherry picker to take the engine out the front. Be sure and work the lift chain short as you can, there is not much room in there.

It's an 80-something Dodge Maxi-Van. The van is pretty much scrap, so I don't have to worry too much about damaging anything getting the engine out. What was the problem with going out the passenger door?

On the "B" series vans the engine is removed through the front-remove the bumper, grille, radiator etc. And as mentioned in an earlier post-keep the chain on the engine hoist as short as possible. Seems that I remember on V8 models removing the carb and manifolds (intake and exhaust) prior to removing the engine made clearance issues much easier to deal with.
Good Luck!

Working the cherry picker sometimes jacking the van up helps. Never pulled a slant. Just my 360's

As a matter of fact, Trucker, the van does have a 360 (I didn't want to mention that on this slant board)
I figured the process would be virtually the same, regardless.
