Has anyone eliminated the flapper and counterweight from a sl6 exhaust manifold. It looks like you could remove everything, tap the shaft hole and then install pipe plugs. What purpose does it serve anyway, quicker warm up? |

Yes, numerous people have done it, whether it's a good or bad idea depends on who you ask. The purpose of it is to supply heat to the manifold which prevents fuel puddling in the runners and other such maladies. |

You could, and you're right, it is to apply exhaust heat to the bottom of the intake, just under the carburetor. In very cold weather, it probably makes a difference on how long it takes to get the 'ol girl up and running smoothly. Where I am in central Texas, it may not make much difference, since our winters are somewhat milder than most. Jerry |

If you want to get rid of the heating aspect, you'd be better off to leave the valve in place, but have it in the closed position for the best exhaust flow. |
