I've been working on plumbing up a Griffin circle track radiator into the Dart, and the hose routing would be much easier (and less likely to trap air bubbles) if the outlet from the thermostat housing exited horizontally instead of vertically. I've been wondering if there's some water neck from a common V8 or something that will have the same bolt pattern and get this taken care of easily. Anyone know if there's an easy option here? |

any SB waterneck would do the job. Nice chromed ones on summit are cheap. There's a MP unit that comes with bolts and stuff. Would you be including a puke (overflow tank) can ? what do you do with lower hose? I'd love to see pictures as I was wondering over this subject... I might need a bigger radiator and I was kinda tired of getting old cores recored... I need a all-around brand new unit to put my mind to rest about this subject. |

Thank you - I'll see if I can get that ordered soon. The radiator has built-in fittings for an overflow tank - but not for a drain plug. I will have pictures when it's complete, but at the moment it looks like the lower hose I have on there now will do the job. I may wind up cutting it to put a drain plug in there though. |

Hey, Matt.....Do a little boneyard scrounging. I found exactly what you're looking for under the hood of a early 90's Taurus wagon with a V-6 under the hood. You'll have to enlarge the hold-down bolt holes and do a little judicious filing on one side to clear the exhaust mounting boss, but other than that, it's a near-perfect fit. It's a casting too, not a stamping. Roger |

As it turns out, Summit's Mopar water neck does not fit the slant six out of the box - the thermostat is too large, and the holes are too far apart. |

I had to rework my cyl head to take the mylodon hi flow thermostats... they clamied to fit but it was like 3/32" too large. I purchased a mopar straight water neck on ebag and it was a perfect fit... I wonder if it was BB or SB... I don't remember. Pix of that new rad setup?

"ANY" SB T stat housing WON'T work.... they went to a smaller T stat (same one as the /6) in 1979. '78 down takes the big one that you bought! I have seen aftermarket manifolds for the SB with both sets of holes though. |

Oh, OK - thanks for clearing that up! I'll have pictures once the installation is complete. Unfortunately I've got several balls in the air right now - I'm trying to juggle upgrading the alternator, the radiator, and adding an intercooler at the same time, so it's taking a while. |

I have used the late SB Mopar straight out water neck. I think they are still available thru MP in chromed sheet metal. You can also get them through a parts house, but they are cast iron (heavy). Lou |
