I have an engine swap question for you guys... Around 1985, the Dodge trucks switched over from the slant six to the 3.9L V6. Do any of you happen to know if the engine mount system was common between the two engines - or if the mounts or crossmember changed? I have a 3.9L, and I would like to swap in a slant six...I am wondering what all what need to change, and if it's (easily) doable. Thanks. |

The last year for the 225 in full-size trucks was 1987. The first year for the 3.9 was 1986 in the new-for-'86 Dakota, '88 for the full-size trucks. The K-frame is the same, but the mounts are not; you'd need the '81-'87 slant-6 truck engine mounts (which may well run clear back to '72). You'll also need the slant-6 trans (or bellhousing) and you'll need to figure out fuel delivery since the 3.9s were fuel injected except in the '86-'87 Dakotas. You may also need a slant-6 throttle cable. |
