| Post subject: | Vinyl Top Replacement Questions |
I found an experienced guy who will do the actual vinyl application, but I am going to do the prep work and provide the material. It's a '75 Valiant, cream with green top, and I'd like to get as close to the original color and texture on the top. So for starters, can someone help me identify "that green"? I think it was pretty common. And I don't think Granny Green is an official color, lol. Here's the fender tag info: Y16 22 END L31 L73 M21 M25 M38 N65 V1C U C25 C52 H51 J52 EW1 L1C6 KC6 523 828422 E24 D34 VH41 C5F 163844 Then, if anyone can recommend a supplier for the vinyl, that would be great. I've seen one or two places on eBay. Other questions I have are about the priming process for the top (I don't see any rust yet, but I have only removed a little of the old top). And finally, is the tool that's used to remove the chrome windshield trim something I could probably buy locally, or more likely a mail order item? I am trying to get as much as possible lined up now so that when the timing is right, we can knock it out quickly. Thanks, R. Wood |

Here is one that I found at Eastwood. I don't see why it wouldn't work on rear glass trim.D.I., thanks for the decoding. So it's just "green" green, huh? No Antique Green, Medium or Dark Green. Two places I've seen offering tops online are Dante's in NJ and Clay's. Anyone dealt with either of them? |

Mopar sold them in: White, Black, Parchment, Gold, Green, and Red for that year (and then only some are half vinyl roofs, some are full vinyl roofs, and one version of the gold roof comes with reptile grain in the vinyl for the Gold Duster) each year varies, in 1974 you could get a Blue Top...but there are no "flavors" like the exterior paint where you can get B1 (very light blue) to an almost indigo colored B8... -D.Idiot |

Quote: This same tool is also available at Harbor Freight. As I recall, it comes in a kit of 4 or 5 assorted tools for panels, handles, and trim and is around $10.00 for the set.
Excellent call; looks like they still offer that set:http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=38386 And there's a store a few miles from me. Thanks for the tip! Anyone have any advice about prepping/priming the roof after I scrape off the old vinyl? |

So i Clicked On The Link; And The Description Said "Releases windshield molding on Ford and GM cars." ... Is This Something That Honestly Need Be Said? Will The Tool Work Poorly On A MOPAR? Seems Silly. |

Is it worth your $5.99 to find out?I've already bought mine; when it stops sleeting I'll try it out. |

It will work on a Mopar; I used it to remove the moldings from a 62 Lancer. Snap-On sells the same thing with a fancy red plastic handle for several times the price. |

Because they are ignorant and don't know any better.
