Dudes, I have my '69 Dart on a single front jackstand to attend to a cracked brake hose and when I turned the sterring wheel to bring the hose into better view, I heard a dripping and discovered that a bunch of fluid had puked out of the power steering pump's lid. Is this a normal thing to see? I should note that the engine was not running--I was just turning the steering wheel by hand, since there was only one wheel contacting the floor.

Its wierd. I've never seen it. You'd think any fluid squeezed out of the gear and back into the pump would be replaced by fluid drawn in through the pressure feed... but maybe there's too much resistance in the feed circuit with the pump not rotating and so it "pulls a vacuum" in the gear and then spits the displaced fluid out the lid.

I wouldn't worry about it if everything works fine with the engine running. Just file it in the "old Mopars do the darnedst things sometimes" drawer :?

my mopar service manual says (DO NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IF THE MOTOR ISN?T RUNNING OR PUMP MAY PUKE SOME FLUID) (translated from my spanish manual) And I have had cars wich does this and cars who doesn't care to comply with this rule... I think it might have to do with the pump style (early Chry or saginaw)

Sure this isnt a Ford??? I see that on those POS' alot it seems to be more noticeable with their plastic reservoir pumps.
