I'm looking at building an efi turbo'd slant 6 for my 68 dart(just for experience with building a turbo motor and playing around with turbos, I'm eventually wanting to build a twin turbo'd all aluminum Hemi, but that wouldn't be for a couple years so I want to build a strong slant that can handle about 15 psi of boost. I'm looking at buying a clifford Performance slant rebuild kit and their super treated connecting rods. They say the rods come with ARP bolts does that mean their rebuild kit does to?

I'm going to buy their header/intake combo kit for the 4bbl and buy a Megasquirt efi kit and weld on a T4 mounting bracket to the headers.

Sound like a strong package for the most part?

Before you drop a bunch of money with Clifford, you should do some reading on this site. Some of their stuff is OK, other is a waste of money. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
PS: welcome to the site.

Good con rods and forged pistons are what you will need for a turbo SL6 bottom end.
Be sure to use the forged steel crank and do some crank lightening if you have the time and ability to do so. (and the $$ for the rebalance job)

Open-up the block's oil passages and select the right cam and you are good to go on the short block.

Review the site's article sction for more details.

Quick hi-jack, what are the block stampings to indicate a forged crank? Can you tell from the shape of the balancer like the big Mopars? and finally what are the best years for strong donor blocks. I hope this info also helps you Ramsst, I'm also thinking of building a turbo slant. Welcome to the board.

OK I wanted t ask you guys to make sure that I don't screw myself here. I'm looking at not doing the turbo for a little bit. but I'd like to not have to tear the motor down when I go to build the turbo system. I was reading through previous topics about n/a engines and was wondering if theres any way I can build for a turbo'd engine but leave it naturally aspirated for a while?

I wouldn't waste the money on headers if turbo is the goal. There is a member here that says he is going to build turbo headers.

A turbo will be spinning in my future. Probably not for a few years.

Welcome! :D

dutra duals can be made to work well with a turbo if u don't want full custom headers, and seem to work good N/A, so those could be done now.

Start with a strong bottom. Polish the bowls, not worrying about the ports at all. Bigger valves, than move onto your intake and efi idea. The camshaft should really be turbo specific if your honestly looking at 15psi. The efi should take you a while, I washed my tank, and installed a internal fuel pump. also ran 3/8 fuel line, and than last you got your intake to deal with, I merely adapted a GM TBi unit onto a one-barell. That should give you a good starting place. i've been planning a turbo build for a while, if you just want to merely play with a turbo I would go ahead and throw a mild cam (shorter duration) and plan on playing with 8-10 psi so you don't need to worry about coolers or injection (just an idea)

Recommend forged pistons, and keep the compression ratio down. How high would depend on the amount of boost you plan to run, and your engine managment system.

Did you see the thread on www.allpar.com where the guy built a very basic turbo slant for $650?
