On a 7 1/4 from a 1973 Dart?

Yes.,,,,

The axle retainers are unbolted and axles can be pulled without removing the rear cover. If the housing is overfilled with oil you will find some dripping out the housing ends after axle removal. ....nothing a coffee can cant handle.....in western Canada some mechanics have been know to use a cocoa tin.....beer can no good

Post subject:  Never mind - WHY WON"T THIS AXLE SHAFT MOVE??!!
I drained the oil anyway because the passenger side axle shaft won't pop out.

I can't see any kind of C clip.
If there is a clip, is it at the inner end of the axle shaft, inside the gear it pokes through?

I already tried the reversed drum trick and the driver's side came out easily.

Did the axle retainer come loose OK?
There won't be a C-clip on a 7.25" axle, just the retainer at the outboard end.

Here's a photo of an axle shaft with the bearing and retainer. From the left (outboard): Flange (lugs removed, note splines), rectangular retainer plate, bearing, ring, axle shaft. This one took some pulling, but nothing extreme and no special puller.

Yes. I removed four nuts, just like the driver's side, and the backing plate is loose.
The driver's side came out with two easy pulls of the drum.
