Well i just got done putting my new 2 bbl on last night and for some odd reason it is idling really high and i have the idle adjustment screw all the way out (it is not even touching the linkage arm) and when i put it in gear it cherps the tires and my idle speed is about 40 mph and the idle mixture screws are only out about a 1/4 of a turn so i don think that is it i pluged off all the vacuum ports that weren't used just to brief on what i have it is a 74 dart stock engine with a motorcraft carb auto trans the carb was just completely rebuilt with all new parts |

Couple of possibilities here. It could be that your throttle cable or auto trans kickdown linkage is topping out its travel before the throttle is all the way closed. To check, disconnect everything except the throttle return spring from the carburetor, and see if the idle can be set down where it belongs. If so, find and fix whatever the bindup is. It could also be that this Motorcraft 2100 carburetor uses an idle air bypass system that closes the throttle plates all the way at idle, and provides idle air through a secondary pathway, which is calibrated for the engine on which this carb was originally installed. This is the same problem folks run into when installing certain types of V8 BBD 2bbls on slant-6s. |

There could be a part of the gasket holding the throttle blades open under the base. Bad vacume leak could also be going but it dont sound like this is the problem or it wouldnt want to idle when you put it in gear & it brings the idle down. Could it just be the choke fast idle is holding the throttle blades open. Look down in the carb (without it running) & take a flash light to see if the throttle blades are closing. You should not be able to see any gap between the blades & body of the carb ( or atleast very little). you can spray carb cleaner around the base of the carb (& adaptor if running one) and this will give a good idea if it has a bad vacume leak. the blades are closed and it does want to die at idle so any time i have to stop i have to bump it up into neutral or it will stall (the bad thing is this is my daily driver so after about 2 hours of messing with it i gave up last night and decided to just drive it the way it is until i could figure it out, bad idea it almost lunched me into the car infront of me in traffic this morning) |

Was this a complete intake & carb change or a Carb & adaptor. You may just have a big vacume leak. Jess |

it was a carb intake change but I think I found the problem last night I did the carb spray around the base and it idled up really high and I got to thinking and I did have to notch the adapter to fit around the big nut holding the manifolds together so it is either it is the adapter or it is the throttle shaft thanks man |
