Post subject: | Kickdown linkage questions? |
We're having some troubles with kickdown on our slanted hot rod. Anyone who knows our car know's it's not your typical Slant 6 application. I'm not sure I have all the available information off the top of my head such as what transmission we're using and what factory linkage we have, but I'll do my best. We're using a 225 with an offy 4bbl intake. Our linkage that we have mounts where the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe connect. The kick down arm is solid and bent slightly to get under the firewall to the kickdown arm on the transmission. We have it adjusted to when the 4bbl is wide open, the arm is pushing the transmission kickdown arm all the way towards the back of the car (against the spring tension). Are we thinking correctly that this transmission kickdown arm is fully pushed towards the rear of the car, this would be when the 4bbl opens and the car should kickdown? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Yes, with the carb at full open, the kickdown lever should be pushed all the way "rearward". DD |

That's what we thought too. We'll have to double check to make sure it really is going all the way "rearward". Nice to see we're headed in the right direction.

We got the kick down issue fixed. We had the arm on the tranny apparently pushed too far back all the time. We set the arm to where it was a little bit less than mid travel and she works like a dream now. We took the little Krylon car for a couple test drives last night while we tweaked the position of the arm and it was nice to hear that 4 barrel open up and the car drop into gear responsively. Car's gonna be a handful this year. ![]() |

You need to attend some SSRN events this year in order to get the car onto the drag strip and talk to other SL6 owners / racers. DD |

That probably works out to less than 10 lb per HP which puts it in some pretty feisty company. |
