i have an 8 1/4 rear id like to put into my duster, problem is, the gears are not very good. they are the 2. something highways, cant remeber exactly. what will it take to put better gears in? ive read that i need to replace the carrier in order to change out, but what else would i need besides a new ring a pinion set. also, i may have access to a 3.21 suregrip out of a diplomat cop car, how easy of a switch is this into the rear i have now? thanks for the help!

to give you a better idea, im looking to have just a nice street ride, itll never see the track. i dont expect anything crazy, but id like to be able to have some get up and go if you know what i mean. what rebuild/gear kits are available out there that would work well and not empty my wallet?

I bought a Ratech overhaul kit a while back, it was a nice set to swap gears, but it didn't come with dye or a pattern guide to check the gear mesh.

I'm thinking of putting 2.26 Ring and pinion gears in my 76 D100. At 70 MPH on the hwy it screams. It was geared for 55mph. Any idea as to how low it'll made my RPMs ? Slant6,3tree.2wd Dadu

Use this:

http://www.csgnetwork.com/multirpmcalc.html

Punching in a 28 inch tall tire (common size) assuming you have an auto with no OD I came up with 1890 RPM with 2.25 gears (@ 70 mph). It'll be an absolute dog in town, but it'll cruise easily.

i've gotten mopar stuff from them on many occasions. for example, 8.25 sure grips, install kits, 3.55 and 4.10 gear sets.

did you even look at the site? mopar stuff is all listed w/prices.
