Post subject:  gas tank repair or replace???

reading anothers issue with smelling gas makes me wonder WHERE and HOW MUCH repairing a gas tank would be...
particulars on the ride....

70 Valiant 225....LOVE it and want it to stop leaking when i put $25 in....
when i put $20 in does NOT leak...gas gauge doesn't read "right" so i will be having that dealt with too(*thinking i am gonna do the voltage regulator or what ever that thing in the behind the cluster....temp gauge is speratic too...rarely reads...this saturday...which will hopefully help the reading)

because of the $5 difference in leaking i am thinking it could be the O-Ring on the fuel sending unit??? if new tank will get new one all set in there too...if it's the problem obviously get it fixed and be all giddy....

living in san diego, it seems no one wants(*and i do understand WHY) to work on gas tanks ...."just get a new one, safer and easier"....
however a little more money i am pretty sure....and thankfully it's tax season so i might be able to find a little extra hobby money....so here's the question...

does anyone have any experience with gastanks.com or any other outlet that is a "known" vendor, or repairer in southern california???

long winded question, sorry, but LOVE my car, and want to be able to make longer trips.....$20 = about 150 miles....unknown if i am accumulating or losing ground tho....

blind, curious and a newb....hard place to be....

New tanks are relatvely cheap and easy to install.

My son ordered our new tank from a Canadian vendor but I seem to recall others here having good luck with an Ebay vendor.

Could it be the filler neck grommet? Those can dry out and leak.

A few years back I ordered a tank from gastanks.com (aka Quanta)
They sold the "American Designs" tanks by Spectra. They are probably
not the cheapest place you can order these tanks. They shipped to me in
a timely manner and the tank fit (mine was for a 63 dodge dart).

They have sender units and socks also.

I liked gastanks.com's service so I recommend them.

This sounds like the filler neck grommet, possibly the sender gasket or vent hose. Whether you replace the tank or not, replace the grommet and gasket. While you're in there, put in a new sock and check your float.

No smoking, Please!
