i am going to swap out my 230 flat head six engine from my 49 dodge
to drop in a 225
does anybody know were can i get the engine mounts for my old dodge to fit a 225?

i am going to swap out my 230 flat head six engine from my 49 dodge to drop in a 225 does anybody know were can i get the engine mounts for my old dodge to fit a 225?

Mabe my memory serves me wrong, but I thought those old flatheads had two mounts at the bell housing and a single mount on the front of the engine, with a "Y" bracket to attach it to the frame. At least that's how my '55 Plymouth was. When I put a Hemi into the Plymouth, I did some junkyard searching and ended up with brackets and pads from a '51 Studebaker. I bolted them on to the Hemi, set the engine in place and heated the brackets until they bent and seated in place against the frame, then welded them in. Since '51 Studebakers aren't exactly a glut today, you will probably have to design your own. I'm shooting from the hip again, but I think the later spool style mounts would be the way to go. Making the receptacle to attach to the frame would likely be easier than finding a place where the holes for a biscuit type mount would allow a nut to be installed on the frame side. Whatever you decide, I suspect you will wind up with an entirely custom design, so I think the best place to start is with a good hotrod shop in your area. There are usually some really creative people working there. |
