I have a '64 Dart with worn out 170 slant 6 and I have a 318 v8 that could go in. Can the '71 Dart v8 center link with the drop for v8 oil pan be used? I have one but it is an an inch wider than the original center link. Thus the front tires are now toed way in and the tie rod length will have to be shortened.

What do ya'll think?

The centerlink will be just 1 of your problems-- motor mounts, tranny, linkages to the new items --etc....(also will need to stop)

if the centerlink is your only problem-- I do not know the physics of adding the appox 1.125" width to a steering geometry-- but I do not think it will work correctly or be safe. Look for a drop center link from 64-66 v-8 cars or shim the motor mounts to clear the existing steering link.

Do some research on this board-- & alot of your questions might have been answered--
make your plan & we can help-- good luck

No, the '71 centre link won't work. You'd need a '64-'66 A-body V8 centre link. And, as VDart points out, you will have a bunch of other stuff to buy, modify and make fit. You'll need new motor mounts, a different transmission (if your '64 is an automatic, the '71 V8 auto trans won't work), bigger radiator, bigger brakes and torsion bars, and, before very long, bigger rear leaf springs and a bigger rear axle...you sure this is the way you want to go...?
