i have seen valve guides knurled. what about knurling the throttle shaft bores on a BBD? i don't know anyone who does the bushings here in San Antonio, and i can't be w/o my truck more than a day or two....i guess i could wait as long as thursday (ugh) if the weather holds....if someone could tell me where they buy the bushings! thanks, sb |

Would you be able to buy another bbd, and have that one bushed (if needed) and have more than a couple of days to shop around for a machine shop. |

No. The reason why valve guides are knurled is because the owner doesn't want to do the job correctly (new valve guide inserts). The knurling holds oil for awhile. Knurling the throttle body would prevent the throttle shaft from ever being oriented correctly relative to the throttle bores again, and would allow air to continue to leak.Quote: i don't know anyone who does the bushings here in San Antonio

i've called all the carb specialists in town, and one guy says he MIGHT be able to help me, but he seemed dubious. i had two different guys tell me the bushings aren't available and to just get a different carb....which just doesn't make sense to me. that carb was produced forever. in any case, i am taking the carb base down to get it looked at by the one guy who was willing to look. he is reasonable. $30 to rebush it IF he has the parts in stock. onward. sb |

rebushed and it runs so good!!!! now, if i can just get my HEI swap to run as well as the points run, i'll be in great shape. night and day with the carb, though. thanks for the help. sb |

Post a new thread about your HEI troubles and I'm sure the lot of us can figure it out all together. Glad to hear the carb rebush was available. I take it this was done by a local machine shop? |

get this: Lone Star Carburetors. they did it in about 20 minutes. most of that time was spent picking out the right bushing! got it done during my lunch break! this is the only place in town that was willing to look! worked out well. sb |

Good deal. I took a Holley 2bbl that came off of my 318 Ram a long time ago to get it rebuilt at the "Carb Shop" (I think it was off of 410, not sure). They did a horrible job and it cost me $120. Ugh, what a waste. |
