A poll is the easiest way I can think to find who would be in on a head. Ok this is beating a dead horse but I will be talking to the owner of Indy to day and can use this as ammo! So the price is a guess but work with it.

This question has been done to death. I can think of at least six aluminum head threads in the last year alone. Please go search them. There is no point in asking this question yet again, especially without cost info.

I think the horse has been decomposed by now  .

When I got my first /6, I searched all the past threads on this forum about the dream of an aftermarket head or a head off a different brand. I have never seen more than a half dozen people state that they would pay what it takes to make this happen.

My vote... One-off parts that cost thousands of dollars are not what being a sixer is all about. So no.

OK, fine: Gimme a fully-machined, street-compatible aluminum head with an advanced combustion chamber for $450 and I'll buy two of 'em.

If you really, really want an aluminum head, PM Dart270.

That is MY idea of what I am doing with my /6. If I want cheap power, i'd swap in a V8. An aluminum head is going to be more than my EFI turbo conversion.

And no, it's not a stupid dream. It's just out of the reach of most.

I would buy "new tech" head, machined with guides and seats installed for 2K or under.

I paid just over $800 for all the work to my regular 75 steel head, and I have yet to see anyone outflow it for the money. its probably happened, I am just not aware of it.

for me to give up more money than that for just the weight savings, I'm sorry but I can't justify it.

please don't let it stop you though, I would like to know that they are out there in case I blow something up.

well the owner of Indy said 1000 a head and be a minimum of 60 heads would be needed for the first order. He seemed very open to the idea. If you are in then let me know the date for release will/would be around Nov. Dec. time due to the r/d of the head and the 2007 race schudule. PM me if you are in.

What kind of flow #'s is he promising? Revised combustion chamber? What style valves?

You need more details from them....will they just use someones current head as the base or strike out on their own? Will they just copy the stock head?

I assume that to make this as universal as possible it's a direct replacement head, accepts stock manifolds and valve gear, requires no block modification or custom pistons?
So the added power will be limited to changes in the internal port shapes (could be very nice depending on the R&D), minus the heat lost from aluminum, plus a nice weight saving.
This means that the benefit will be minimal for race engines since use of stock parts is exactly what they don't want, which is higher port location in the casting for more downdraft and larger short turn radius, larger intake port window, longer valves, smaller chamber volume with flush deck, different stem angle, different valve centers (intake closer to bore center), etc. (and that's not even getting into cross-flow).

I can see the results...

Immediate response: "Great, I'm in!!"
"Oh, wait, does that mean I have to put in $1,000 now?"
Who holds the money until you have the $60,000?
What happens if:
1. not enough people?
2. it's still not done by June 2008?
3. it doesn't work (leaks, cracks, warped)?
4. Indy tells you "they're done, but it's $90,000"

$1,000.00? Is that with seats installed? With guides installed? With valves? Seats are cut? For what size valves? Chambers cast or machined? All accessory bracket holes drilled and tapped? How much is shipping?

The actual response:
After 1 week: 3 deposits
After 1 month: 5 deposits total
After 6 months: 10 deposits total
...and so on.

A fast burn, alloy head for Dec 15th 2007 delivery for $1000? Im in IF it meets or beats all those criteria.
Of course that $1000 includes seats installed for 1.70 valves.....

Seriously ....Im in ...unless it gets more expensive...later ....or comprimised.

Oh yeah....for 1.

Just a note....Indy uses Edelbrock RPM alloy heads on its cheaper crate motors....A bare Indy BB head (1) is $850.
