Post subject:  Intake/exhaust stud replacement

Hey all,
I have 2 broken exhaust studs, so I tore down the intake and exhaust, and am following this procedure:
http://www.slantsix.org/articles/manifo ... unting.htm

I can't find anyone who carries the Chrysler MoPar Manifold Heat Control Valve solvent. Local stealer tells me that they no longer make it, but ford has some rust remover that is the same thing, can anyone verify this, or recommend another?
I think I'll be able to find the studs, but, since I'm in there, I'd like to upgrade to the thicker washers, but I can't find them either, anyone have a source?

Thanks,
John

Sorry you got such BS,

I had a "heat riser obsession" last year and was advised on the forum to get this solvent. It works great!! I got mine from D+J Automotive in Louisburg NC, 1-800-451-5009. Cost $6.20. One of these old time mopar dealerships with old time guys in parts place. Called one day, had it next.

It is too still in production. Part number is 4318 039AB.

Additional info on manifold and hardware replacement here and here.

Be advised you can now get much better-quality, better-sealing gaskets than the NAPA set mentioned in the article. Gippsland Pentastar makes them in Australia, and they are well worth waiting for. See here for details. You can order them on the maker's site; they are the last two items on this page.

Thanks to both of you. My dealer sucks. One of the folks behind the counter commented that they don't support anything over 15 years old. They really don't give a crap whether they get the business or not. I have a request in to D&J, and asked about the studs/washers also. I ordered the Gippsland gaskets a couple of days ago. I had posted my stud request on the EVBC list, and someone sent the link.

part# 4318039AB is a part every dealer has in stock (it is called rust penetrant) it lists for $5.79 if they do not stock it, it must be that they do not replace many 4.0l manifolds and they are a bad dealer to go to
