The generator on my Savoy crapped out again, so I put in an ('73-up style) alternator. Since I was in a pinch, and the Savoy is my only driveable car, I cannibalized the alternator bracket off my '60 Valiant, which was mounted in the same place as the generator on the Savoy, driver side of the engine, kinda underneath and to the right of the water pump. All the slant six vehicles in junkyards around here have alternators mounted in the normal way, high on the passenger side. So, how long did mopar use the driver-side mounted alternator? Also, the newer style alternator doesn't seem to work quite right with the 1960 bracket.

I guess I don't remember for sure, but this seems less than ideal...I assume that on the Valiant, both of the ears on the alternator would have went inside the bracket, or vice versa.

Anybody have any of these brackets laying around?

Thanks, and sorry that ended up so long-winded.

Justin.

The manifold-side alternator mount was used in passenger cars only on the '60 Valiant. For '61 it was moved to the spark plug side. A different manifold-side alternator bracket setup was used in the A100 and A108 vans, because the narrow "doghouse" engine compartment didn't have space for a spark plug-side alternator mount.

All of the Chrysler-built small-frame alternators fit and mount the same from 1960 clear on up through 1987.

Does the alternator have the "floating sleeve" insert in one of the mounting holes? Are you using the spacer that goes between the bracket and the alternator holes?

No, it just had a bolt with a nut and washer, no spacers or anything.

Oh man.

So I'm gonna go ahead and assume that my chance of finding another one of these brackets is quite small.

Any ideas on where to look?

Thanks.

Justin.

Don't worry too hard about it; you may not find a '60 Valiant alternator bracket, but you shouldn't have too much difficulty scaring up a '64-up A100 or A108 alternator bracket setup which will bolt on and work for you.
