maybe a hundred years ago, i had a 1970 p/u and found that i could pull the power assist steering system off of a camper special that would bolt to my steering arm to help take some of the sweat out of parking in tight places... can this be done to a mid 60's A100 van at all ? |

I used to have a 65 a-100 pickup and found the steering to be relativley easy even with the small custom steering wheel installed by the previous owner. As far as mounting the power assist ,you may be able to mount a truck setup to the axle but finding somewhere inside the engine box to mount the ppump would difficult as it would need to occupy the same space as the alternator. You may want to try new king pins and bushings before trying power steering as worn pins and bushings make steering effort quite high. HyperValiant |

thanks... the truck i had was a pig to park... with maybe 90 degrees of play in the wheel... vans are easier in that the wheels are under your butt making it so much easer to manuver... i remember enjoying driving the 69 van i had SO much more than the 70 pickup... a standard pickup that is, not the A100. the reason i am asking is that i now drive a 01 tacoma... a wonderful machine. but not so much room. even with a shell... the A100 must have 3 times the cargo space... and once you get everything right, its like a volvo...bulletproof...i like that |
