hello all... this is my first post...
i am getting a mid 60's A100 van, i'm reading about the 225 power plant and i'm hooked... there's alot of info here about the super six but not so much about the hyper pack... the super six is a no brainer, simple to install...cheap, good mileage, easy parts availability, enough hp to get the job done... now the hyper pack... thats an open question... it looks like most people who use them do so for race type applications, and not so much the daily driver...
to me , more air means potentially better mileage... is this the case with the hyper pack ? or does the 4 barrel just nix that ? i don't think a 2 barrel has enough air to feed the hyper pack... its all a bit vage to me on that point

i have been reading the threads and am up to page 25 or so and haven't found much about this yet...[perhaps for good reason]... also, i like the idea that the hyperpack CAN provide more power but at the end of the day its going to revolve around mileage for me since power is so easily found in the 318, but unfortunately mileage is not.... anyone ???

The Super six is an easy upgrade with some power improvement and possibly mileage for the guy just driving the "stock" 1 barrel slant...given there are more improvements in there too (like switching to Electronic ignition and making sure your timing assembly is in good shape, preventative maintenance, etc...)...

The hyperpak is a real $$$ proposition in reliability and size...

The advantages are:

You get a 4 barrel so you got good power, the intake when coupled to an engine with good head work, increased compression, better than stock cam can actually provide more volumetric efficiency if you are in a "mid range" RPM band.

You also get some nice low to midrange torque that the standard intake doesn't impart due to shorter runners.

I looks neat (not the most functional of advantages).

Disadvantages:

It is not 'plug and play' you have to get a new/modify your existing exhaust manifold to work with the Clifford intake.
You have to order one from Clifford which is a headache unto itself.
The manifold is about 20-something inches long (i.e. pull the "dog house" on your van and see if it will still cover the aircleaner if you add about 12 more inches of intake off the end of the stock intake).

You have to custom fabricate most of the linkages yourself.

Price of a complete super six about $200 (depends on area and whether you pulled it or it's a eBag item)...cost of the Hpak intake about $400(plus you'll have to get a 4 barrel carb and accessories so add another $2-400).

There is no carb heat so if your vehicle lives in a place of cold weather/winters are rain and snow and below 50 degrees outside most times...the Hpak is not friendly unless you manufacture a carb/intake plenum heater...

The super six is a bolt on and go, the hpak, you *will* be spending some time (for me it's in the "months" of trial and error tuning to get my mill close to right, I actually have a "winter setting" and a "summer" setting).

The hyperpak may or may not get you any better mileage than the 1 or 2 barrel setup either (and if you keep your foot in it, it definately won't)

So check your clearances, your wallet size, and your mechanical abilty and see if it will work for you...then see where you land, if not set on the super six, and still want the 4 barrel, getting an Offenhauser intake would be the next best bet...

Welcome to the board! You will certainly want to buy at least the factory service manual and perhaps the other two books mentioned in this thread.

You would not get better MPG with a Hyper Pak by any stretch of the imagination, even if the Hyper Pak intake would fit in an A100, which it almost certainly won't. If you're after better performance with equal or better economy, go to a 2bbl ("Super Six") setup, put in a better exhaust (Dutra Duals) and do some upgrades to the ignition hardware and advance curves.

Whatever fuel system you wind up with, you'll want to do the Fuel line mod to improve cold and hot starting and reduce fuel stink in the passenger compartment.

For ignition upgrades, I recommend using a Chrysler electronic-ignition distributor with the HEI upgrade, install a NAPA Echlin long-tip rotor # MO-3000 with Standard-Bluestreak CH-410X cap and (if you have a '74-down head w/spark plug tubes) put in NGK ZFR5N plugs gapped to 0.045".

Assuming the engine and everything else are in basically good shape, the next step after that would be a thoughtfully-selected camshaft...

no quandry at all. super six would suit your needs better than hyperpak.

also, an overall easier install than the 4bbl Offy unit.

all good info, more or less inline with what i have read...
yes i've been busting knuckles on one machine or another off and on for 20 years or more i guess, The work sounds straight forward enough... i felt the super six was the right choice from the start.... this sounds like its going to be fun...when these things are done well there is nothing so good as a well built machine .... its a zen thing...

thank you all... i love this site... could have used it back in the day..... j

I agree, and also add milling the head to increase the compression ratio which will help the fuel economy and power.

That being said, I am putting a Hyper-pak on one of my cars, but will be "weekend only" use.

I doubt a Hyper Pak would fit inside your engine box.
