Post subject:  How much power is your /6 pushing?

Greetings, I am a Mopar nut! I own a 1968 Dodge Charger 318 4bbl I am a fan of doing things different. Everyone I have talked to wanted me to pull my 318 in favor of a big block, well I had other ideas.... I am becomming a fan of A body Slant six cars. I hope to have one soon. Maybe an early 70s Dart or Duster. How much horse power are you getting out of your leaning tower of power? I mean with out NOS. Just bolt ons and engine rebuild.

I love old Mopars and cars in general. I want to make one my daily driver some day soon, and keep my newer car for a long hauler.

Thanks!
Bone

Thats crazy, one reason why I think it's fun fixing up an engine that is not known for performance is the looks people give you when they think you have a big block but really you have a 318. That is one reason why I want to build a slant six, because then people will really scratch their head.

I am sure you engines are turning over 300 + hp with turbos and all that. Has anyone had their engine on a dyno?

Last year at the Pittsburg slant six race, we put my 66 Cuda on the chassis dyno. Pulled 204 rear wheel HP with a 170 on nitrous. There are slants making much more then that.

did anyone ever confirm that green lancer (I think it was anyway) that the owner said was 500+ on that ungodly huge turbo? it was all over this site for awhile, someone had posted a link to another country (other than the u.s.).

also check out drakecoatings.com and look around at the pictures.

Head is stock except for milled 100 thou. Mild cam (I forget which one in that motor) but about .430-.440 lift and 264-268 dur. Cast iron 1 bbl intake modified for a 500 2bbl. Not much to the engine , but remember I am on nitrous.

Dyno sheet shows 204hp @ 4500 rpm, and 358 ft/lbs torque @ 2750 rpm.
Horsepower curve is almost totally flat from 3,000-5500 rpm

i have a 76 duster 0.060 over block .140off the block,0.090 off the head giving 11.4/1 comp ratio, 1.80 intake and 1.60 exhaust full port and pocket job, cam is comp 255dur/0.050 and .540in lift and 1 3/4 in header and 750cfm mech carb, car is 2500lbs with me in,it went 12.30et at 109.88mph in the 1/4, it has never been dyno but i think at these #s 318hp is reasonable (no nitrous/ blower/turbo):D

Duster Dave from Moparts.com figured my flywheel HP from my 1/8th mile time. I would think the number should be higher as I am speed shifting my 3 speed on the column. There ain't nothing "speedy" about that!

119HP@the flywheel with the mods listed below.

I just followed the second link in the apsix posting above. In the resulting thread, I clicked on the blownhemi Youtube link and Holy Cow, they have video of some aussie /6 doing 11 second runs. Yipe.
