Post subject: | Hazards/Turn Signals |
Hey Guys, I have a strange question. I bought a 68 valiant with little knowledge of where the car came from and who had it before the owner I purchased it from. Anyways, I was checking all the instruments and whatnot and tried my hazards. But they wouldnt work. So I tried my turn signals and they worked fine. Then I left my hazards on and tried the turn signal (just by chance) and the hazards work! I dont know if this is just what valiants do or if the po messed with the wiring to make the hazards work. I have gone through lots of posts on here just reading as much as I can to get more schooled on these cars and I came acrossed the post about updating the instrument panel (I believe it was slantsixdan). I know that the gauges dont work and the dash lights and more. So I was gonna do that update on the instrument panel but I didnt know if the hazard problem had any relationship to this or not. The wiring in this car seems pretty brittle and I even saw some wires under the hood that looked melted. Sooooo anyones input would be well appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dan |

The hazards and turn signals use common circuitry but separate flashers. Sounds like you need to replace the hazard flasher unit. |

The hazard switches don't get used often and sometimes corrode a bit inside and don't work - I gave a shot of WD40 to our '68 switch, worked it a few times back & forth, and it was as good as new. |
