I don't need any, but does anyone have a reasonably priced source for the steel head gasket? Someone got one from me, and I did a little checking, and the ones I found, were about $25. One vender wanted $40. |

Call Bill at 'The Chicago Connection'. I talked to him the other day and he still has a bunch of them that we bought up a few years ago. 773/229-0655 I still have a few too. Charlie, did you ever run a steel shim on a joos motor? Did it hold up? |

I have about 10 in stock. I was just wondering, so if anyone else needs any, they would have a source. I will help out someone, if they must have one, but I prefer not to deplete my stock at this time. If they are getting hard to find $25 is not unreasonable, but I think $40 is too much. The motor that was in my car at Pittsburg, had a shim gasket. I lost compression on number 2 and 3 cyl, and thought it was the gasket, but when I pulled the head did not see anything wrong. Must have broke a couple of rings, or pistons below the crown. Have not pulled the motor down, yet. It was a "throwaway" motor. Totally stock long block, except for mild cam (that one I got from you) and 100 off the head. (204 wheel hp) |

that part # does not show up as good in my system ( it might be an old part # that mopar has removed from the database |

2843 182 is the newer number, the gasket is the same as 1947 578, and www.chryslerpartsdirect shows availability on 2843 182 at $5.66 . |

Great! This is another one of those parts I am looking to gather for my engine project. Steel shims really work well as long as the surfaces are good and are my first choice unless there is some reason to run an o-ring style of gasket. Plus I can drop the compression a little with a Felpro or two steels if the gas gets any worse. Thanks for posting the info. |

We are talking about a head gasket only, stamped steel, embossed type.What's the difference between these and a $100 gasket from NAPA? These are thinner then the composition gaskets you get in today's gasket sets. The good news, the thin head gasket helps keep the compression ratio high, the bad news, the single layer steel, shim gasket design does not seal well on non-flat / used surfaces. DD |

I called Chrysler Parts Direct and the newer number that Dan posted 2843 182 has been listed as a discontinued item. No longer in stock, which I kind of figured. |
