Hello everyone, first post!

Anyway, I have a nice '63 Dodge 330 four door sedan (unofficial B-body) with a 225 slant, three speed on the column and 8 3/4 rear. It's such a stripper that the slant moves it pretty well, the only option is the heater!

I'd like to convert the car from a three speed column shift to a four speed on the floor. I know humps are reproduced, so I should be good to go there. I also know it's a ball and trunion type driveshaft so that will also need to be changed. What 833 four speeds could I use with the existing bellhousing? Is there a better four speed swap?

Welcome on the board.

You don't necessarily need to change the driveshaft just because the front U-joint is the ball and trunnion type. This type of front U-joint was used with 4-speeds, too, in '64-'65. You will need to pick out a 4-speed transmission; are you interested in an overdrive 4th gear or a direct-drive 4th? You will also need a 4-speed bellhousing suitable for whichever transmission you pick.

Welcome
Just making sure you have seen and read This Article
Keep asking questions, you need to go through with your plan. A fully syncronized trans with more gears will make the car much more fun to drive.

OD 833 would be nice. Looks like a 2wd truck OD 833 should have the B-Body shift pad and long tailshaft so the shifter is located properly. I'd also have to use the bellhousing and clutch assembly for the OD tranny. Questions that would remain: Clutch linkage, speedo cable, and tranny mount. Driveshaft would obviously need to be changed to a slip yoke type and probably shortened. The rest I'm not sure about.

Yes, driving a non-synchro three on the tree can be a pain!

It sounds like you have a good grip on what it will take to make this swap work.
The "Z bar" and it's mounting point on the new bellhousing may need some reworking, depending on how things line-up, you will just have to compare that mounting point as you shop for bellhousings.

Speedo cable is easy, they can be made to any length with any style ends.
Rear tranny mount will be the same, a "bolt-on".

The biggest part of the job by far is knowing where to cut away the floor and how to install the hump. Go to some of the Mopar car shows or races and look for a car to get some measurements off of.

What is the difference in the 3speed and the 4speed as for driving. I have a complete drive train taken from a newer truck with a 4 speed od and the different rearend to. I plan on swapping the units this summer. Also does anyone know if the steering column from a 85 truck will work on a 79. The 79 has the three on the tree and the 85 has the 4 speed on the floor. Thanks.
