Well the radiator finally gave up to ghost. The tank is cracked in three places and the core is shot too. Any ideas on where I might find a replacement radiator for a 63 dart with the 225 six cyl. engine?

New ones specifically for that application cannot be had any longer, so practically speaking, you're looking at either adapting a radiator intended for a later model car, or buying a custom radiator.

The former option will entail either cutting down the left side bracket on a later-model radiator, or widening the cutout in the radiator support panel. Starting in 1965, all A-bodies got a cutout large enough for the optional 22" wide radiator. Basic equipment with a slant-6 and no A/C was still a 19" wide radiator as was used in all A-bodies from '60-'64, but the left side bracket was several inches wide to span the unused extra width of the rad support cutout and bolt onto the support panel.

The latter option will result in a cleaner installation and probably be considerably less hassle. Take a look at this
(note the banner up at the top with his phone
number and a thing saying he makes custom aluminum radiators to spec.)

I've been thinking about the same thing as of late since my radiator is doing ok, but I hate how close the fan is and want to get some better cooling. While I could have this one rebuilt, putting an aluminum one of better capacity. It would also entail getting rid of the stock fan, and finding a low-profile set of electric fans or some combo of pusher/puller (though I would rather avoid a pusher if possible). I'm not wild about opening up the radiator support area, but i could do it if necessary.

Anyone else have any solutions for the early A body, 60-63 before they decided to give a little more length in the engine bay?

Thanks

MJ

More RADIATOR discussion.

yeah I remember that discussion, but I never saw any resolution. It may be there is more wiggle room on the 63-up cars. Here's how much space I've got going right now with the stock fan.

I've just got no room to spare! :D
