Post subject: | Oil Leak Past Spark Plug Tubes |
Started looking this afternoon, for the source of an oil leak beneath my '69 225 Valiant. I noticed that a couple of the spark plug tubes had oil about to drip past them. The rest were alright. The previous owner used a mixed version of plug wires also...some with the seals on them, others not. How does a sufficient amount of oil get past the spark plug threads, up the tubes and spill over? Is there maybe something wrong internally in the engine or head? For the time being, I am going to pull the tubes, put new seals on them (not from automotive parts store ---maybe from Home Depot or Lowe's), and install proper plug wires. Maybe my garage floor will appreciate my efforts. |

Ummm...why not? That's the most appropriate place to get them. B45384 will get you a spark plug tube seal at NAPA (you'll need to order six). Or, you can get a set of six from Fel-Pro under P/N ES12794.Your oil leak is almost certainly past the nonexistent or cooked/cracked old tube seals, not past the plug threads and not due to any internal engine fault. |

I ordered mine from parts america-- less than $5 for all 6 seals---- not quite a generic "o" ring -- but they were soft & fit perfectly-- also no more leaks. Very worthwhile gasket-- the ones I pulled off could have passed for delron or something similar-- very brittle-- probably original. |

I just got a set of Fel-Pro's from Rock Auto. The part number for the set of six is ES12794. While you're looking for leaks, check out your oil pressure sender. Mine was leaking only while running and Doc pointed me to the culprit. |
