Post subject:  heavy duty 4 speed?

Ive got a 4speed from a truck from the early 60's and was wondering if it differs from others? I am a auto guy so it really doesn't do much for me to have it and one other 4 speed laying around the house and the wife yelling about getting rid of them. I don't know where the other trans came from because it was sitting out of a car on the ground. I procured these from a friend who didn't want them either so if any one knows about 4 speeds and is looking for one let me know.

Post subject:  demon, is it a top loader, and I am always looking

Hi demon,

Is the tranny one with a stick in the top (NP435) or one with a side mount (833 family)? Toploader is a fine tranny but a real boatanchor, others, I am always interested in stashing.

They used a lot of NP420's trans on trucks back in the 60s also,
top load, top shifter....... also a very heavy boat anchor but
very strong trans....

Might add that truck trans came in two input shaft types
up to 68 used the 10 spline; 69 and later used the 23 spline
imput shaft. This will mater to someone looking if your selling....

how to tell the 420 from the 435 is the 420
has the cover plate on the driver side and a drain plug
at the rear bottem of the case, 435 should
have that plate on the passanger side and drain plug rear
side of case.
