My Erson cam came the other day. I was going through the included instructions and other paperwork and found a piece of paper advising me that the cam was not made of iron and to use an aluminum/bronze gear on my distributor. Obviously this paper was a mistake ( I will call Erson anyway to absolutely make sure and satisfy my paranoia ) but it makes me wonder what someone would use if they did manage to find a steel roller cam. I've seen the plastic distributor gears but what about the oil pump? What could you use on it?

I also have a few of the bronze gears.
(I made them for the Cox Bros.)

Is that a bronze oil pump gear? Is that a better choice for a mild street build or is that primarily a racing part?

A bronze oil pump gear goes with a steel roller cam, this is race engine stuff.
The bronze gear will wear-out faster then the factory cast iron drive gear.

As I suspected. Thanks. I've got the original oil pump form the engine ( '62 vintage ) and it appears to be in excellent shape. I also have a new Melling 5-bolt pump. I'm inclined to use the original with its original drive gear.
