| Post subject: | Strut Rod Bushing Comparison |
/6 geniuses, I am starting a front suspension rebuild on a 76 Feather Duster. I purchased my front end kit from Espo. The piece specified for the Strut Rod Bushing is markedly different from the original. I am confident that Espo knows what they are doing, but I just wanted to run it by you guys. My query is if the new bushing(left side of image) is an acceptable substitute for the original or was I given an incorrect part? Thanks in advance!

The new bushing is a factory style bushing. The old bushing is an aftermarket improved style replacement bushing. |

I would try to get the aftermarket style, as they can be had with a metal sleeve that will prevent the shearing. I went through this a few months back, here's what I ended up doing: http://www.camimenko.com/gallery/v/Lanc ... /strutrod/ I think I ended up with a B body strut rod bushing or the later A, I can't recall which. I beg to differ. The old bushing (right picture) is factory. The new bushing (left picture) is the aftermarket replacement. The factory style requires removal of the strut rod to replace the bushing. The aftermarket style can The old bushing is an aftermarket improved style replacement bushing. "supposidly" be replaced by cutting the rear section of the old bushing out, and sliding the new bushing on the end of the rod and into the "K" member, without removing the rod. I have never tried it, as I have always done a complete rebuild. Edit: I might be totally wrong. Just looked in my parts book and the picture shows the tappered bushing (left pic). |

Thanks guys! I guess it might have helped if I would've opened up my FSM!  Anyway, I bought a MOOG set of the improved kind from RockAuto today! It has the sleeves mentioned by NewLancerMan! Can't wait to have a rebuilt front end! |
