Post subject:  What Tranny

I was wondering; as I start gathering parts for this rear engined car; what tranny the lighter /6 guys are using.
I hate the idea of a P'Glide, even though the race versions have no GM parts in them, it would be like sacrilege to me to have anything GM related in a Mopar.
Moparhd says he's got a short tailshaft 727 for a /6 which came in some powerwagon or something, but I really don't want the drag or weight of a 727. Did they make any short tailshaft 904's?
Would a P'Glide really work well for a light car, normally aspirated?
any help you racers could give would be apprieciated, it's been a long time since I've played with cars; and the smallest thing I've ever raced was a 426.

Are you planning a true rear-engine setup, or a mid-engine?

My bad; a mid engine.
Rear engine would be kind of silly wouldn't it?
I was just speaking with John Cope of Cope Raqcing Transmissions this morning for another project and he suggested a 727 with a short tailshaft, which is what moparhd is going to use in the /6 FED.
I just hoped there was a short tailshaft for the 904, but I guess there isn't.
Now if there was a way to make one of those modern transaxles work without the electronics; that might have potential.

The electronic module just makes or opens a ground circuit to different solenoids inside the trans. I think it would be less work to make a manual shifting electronic trans, then it would be to make it physically fit.

Hey, according to lots of folks, doing ANYTHING with a Slant Six is kind of silly! :)

Remember, you could have a mid engine car with the engine in front of you. Think Cheetah .

Do you have any sketches of your idea, or photos of cars that inspire you?

Oh, this is no new idea at all; quite the opposite. I'm going to build a sorta-replica of the famous (if you're an old guy like me) Speed Sport Roadster. There were a couple of them built back in the day; one was at "Big Daddy's" when I was last there in Dec.'06. Some guy in Indianna built one a few years ago, but I can't find out who it is, I've just seen it. But I'm putting the /6 n mine just so I can make it fast enough to be fun.
If you want to see the basic idea, go to www.gearanon.com and go to the pictures of Bakersfield section. It's photo 35 on page 3 and photo 93 on page 20. Tell me that doesm't look like a fun ride!

That's the one!
I am going to make sure a 392 fits in it though.
