Here's one for ya! I just finished restoring my 64 Signet, 225 4 speed. It runs great except for one thing, the car has a very bad shudder in first and second gear. I feel it in the steering wheel, you can see the whole dash vibrate. When i rev the engine in neutral, it's smooth through the rpm range. Drive shaft is completely rebuilt, nothing it loose, and it doesn't do it in 3rd or 4th gear. Could it be in the trans? |

Check the U-joints. Especially if the vibration changes when you accelerte or coast. |

no vibration at hiway speeds. When you pass through a narrow rpm band, there is a shudder in car in 1st and 2nd gear. but not in 3rd or 4th when passing through the same rpm band. and it doesnt shudder when the car is on jack stands, running, in 1st gear passing through the same rpm band. it's very strange. |

Was the housing for the B/T joint changed? If not, try unbolting the joint from the trans, and put a couple of flat washers on each of the studs, then put the joint back up to the trans and nut it back up. The washers go between the B/T joint and the flange on the trans. If the vibration improves, the B/T joint is worn internally, and just putting in a repair kit will not cure the problem |
