I have a 7.25 rear axle with LBP form a mid 70s A-body car. I also have a sure grip which I want to install in that housing along with a set of 3.23 gears. The FSM show a tool used to spread the case to facilitate removal and reinstalation of the carrier and ring gear but I don't happen to have one of these lying around. Is there an alternative method for performing this task? |

My 7.25 gear swaps had me prying the gears into the case with a big screw driver. It would take you longer to setup the spreader than it does to pry it in. |

I had the same issues with a Dana 60. It took lots longer to do with a spreader.

Next question then. What do I need besides bearings and shims? Should I just buy a complete install kit? |

It's always best to have the complete kit. It may cost a little more, but it will save time in the long run. |
