I have access to a 80 volare wagon. Can these disk brakes somehow fit on my valiant? |

As I recall (you'd better double check because I could be sadly mistaken) you can use the calipers, rotors, spindles, upper ball joints, and upper control arms but you will need the lower control arms and lower ball joints from an A-body to make it work. There are differences in the spindles which make the conversion somewhat controversial but it is not an uncommon swap and supposedly works out fine. |

Yes. Grab the spindles and their brakes. Here's the other parts needed: '73-'76 A-body disc brake ball joints (the F-body uppers may be the same) '73-'76 A-body upper control arms (There is no difference between disc and drum versions) Disc brake master cylinder and proportioning valve. |

Yes, it will work. I used the brakes from a '79 Cordoba. You will need the parts Matt mentioned. I was unable to find the correct UCA's and proportioning valve. I bought tubular UCA's and an adjustable proportioning vavle. The best advice I can give is to rebuild the rest of the front end while you are in there. Tie rod ends, ball joints, LCA bushings (PITA!!!), strut rod bushings, etc. You don't want to cut corners and find out you cannot get the front end aligned. Trust me, I took it back apart twice before I quit trying to cut corners. You will be very pleased with the resuts! Good Luck. |

Matt said Quote: '73-'76 A-body upper control arms (There is no difference between disc and drum versions)
The upper control arms ( uca's ) from the volare or cordoba are completely worthless on an a-body as already stated. The uca's from a '71' have a smaller ball joint but are otherwise the same as the '73-76' uca's. It's not safe to use the smaller ball joint (in most people's opinion, although I've heard you can do it with some shims and enough beer) and a lot of work to make larger ball joints fit into the older uca's, (cutting/welding) so most people buy the 'easy' fit. This is a big project and it's been done many time and many ways. I seem to recall that there is a good write up about it in the A-body section of the allpar forums. If you need a set of factory uca's I think I've got one hidden away still. They are likely to be in need of new ball joints and rubber bushings, but make me an offer if you are interested. |
