Post subject: | broken rings |
I found a broken ring this week. This is in my 66 motor with 88,000 It was an auto I switched to a 4 spd. This is the second time this has happened to me switching from auto to manual. Someone told me it might be from the wear pattern at the ridge because I'm using more RPM with the stick. Has anyone else had experience with this. Any thoughts or theories..........As I am looking at a used motor that was in an automatic truck. Also could a hydraulic lifter motor take a .055 head cut with stock pushrods? Thanks. |

Pushrod length is critical with a hydraulic engine. You may have to shorten the pushrods the same amount you take off the head. |

The main cause of broken piston rings are worn cylinder bores, especially when the bore is bigger at the top then the bottom. (cone shape) Measure the bore wear to confirm the amount of wear at the top vs the bottom of the cylinder. DD |
