I saw an ad in last Sunday's paper for an estate auction thats happening this weekend (hey Slantzilla..... its in your old hometown in Iroquois County  ) anyway they are listing a 78 Fury 2 DOOR with 31K miles, mimimal rust (I know, I know, everyone's idea of minimal is different)
at this point engine size/options unknown, and I know as well as everyone that this can affect the value (percieved or otherwise) tremendously on some cars. being the most common, and for argument's sake, I'm gonna assume that its a smallblock with a column shifted 904.
I'm gonna try to make it down there to look at it , but there are 3 auctions happening at the same time that I'd like to be at.... impossible.
The one closest to me has 2 commercial walk behind mowers I'm interested in (a 32-36 and a 52 incher) theres a once a yr outdoor lawn equip auction that Ive been trying to get to for at least the last 5 yrs, and the one with the Fury. I'm gonna go early to the one with the 2 commercial mowers and if the 36 incher is worthwhile, leave an absentee bid and then hopefully go look at this car. Ive always liked the B and C body 2 DOOR "land yachts". So anyway, any idea how much this car might be worth?? With $3/gallon gas I'm hoping it goes cheaply.

This is in Onarga Don? I can't recall any 2 door Fury's there, but I have been gone a long time. :?

Side note, your old Volare motor will be hitting the track again Sunday. It is back in the red car and seems to be running good. :D

Don, my shop is in Milford, I am from Onarga.

I saw that car sitting out at a farm last weekend I think. It was maroon and shined like a new dime. It could bring some good coin if a bidding war erupts. :)

well its mine, sounds like were talking about the same car. 38, 884 miles when I drove it away, interior is like brand new, my guess on eng/trans was right. PS/PB/A/C Cruise. Crank windows, split bench. orig owner's grand daughter came up to me as I drove away and claimed that it had never seen anything more than 55MPH. I could tell that its had a bit of work done. Fuel pump and filter as well as sending unit looked recent, yet the gauge isn't accurate, it read 3/8 of a tank, I filled it up in Milford only took 8 gals gauge didnt move. Got it home no prob, wife asked to go for a cruise, found myself along I 57 acting like it ran outta gas. Bum fuel pump. Strange as new as it looked/easy as it came off. $20 and a call to a buddy later I drove it home. New gas didn't mix very well with the old, as I was changing pump I had the wife crank it over til it shot gas out the pump, smells more like kerosene. Needs driven.
Ask your buddy Pat. I saw him by his building on the way home, stopped to say hey. Pd a little more than I wanted (whats new?) only rust is the VERY edge of RR qtr behind the wheel down low. easy fix.

Sounds like a cool car Don, congrats to ya! :D :D

I'll talk to Patrick later tonight, we have to exchange race reports.

I was at my shop yesterday too picking up the red car.

Report later on how your old motor runs at RT66 today.

Now to see if I can still get a set of TRUE duals sans converter done these days, esp being that the exh is bad right at the back of the cat. ( factory welded pipe about busted off at the weld) pipes still solid though.

Motor went 16:62@79 mph yesterday. Still stock with an Offy 4bbl and Dutra Duals with 1-7/8" down pipes.

You'll have to look for a while to find a shop that will do that around here....maybe over in IN ??? Might want to get AV plates to get around IL emission testing too.

They don't do smog testing in the county I'm in... besides a couple Sundays ago there was a huge front page story about them revamping the test program that they have in Cook co. that anything pre OBD II (Pre 96) shortly wont be tested for the next 4 yrs. On a 96-up all they do is plug in a scanner and check for codes.... if the computer says all is well you pass... anything older they still do the tailpipe tests, but not for a while now. Only read the 1st part of teh story, don't know when that starts.
I Talked to an old friend that I havent seen in a while, told him what I got and asked for a est on duals off the manifolds and the subject of cats never came up!
I asked about AV plates when I went to the currency exch and was explicitly told taht with them I could ONLY drive it on holidays or to/from a car show, thats it. I like the idea of them because for the same price as it costs for a year for std plates, AV's are good for 3. I wanted to get custom plates for it. The last time I had custom plates it didnt cost me any extra as long as I requested them at the same time as I first registered the car and had at least 1 number; only if I requested all letters would there be an extra charge, on top of the already extravagant costs to register a car here. Now, its an extra $47 on top of all the rest of the B.S. charges with at least 1 number and $94 with all letters... I think I'll take whatever random plate number they give me.
