I was wondering if there are any benefits besides engine durability of the Slant Six. To a more specific extent, the 225ci Slant Six. I'm looking at a '74 Scamp with such an engine, and I am debating on whether to keep this engine or put in a 360. Any input on this would be very helpful.

Besides the durability, the SL6 is easer and less expensive to operate and repair. The SL6 (in top condition) will run smoother then a V8 and it will get better MPG. If you want lot's of "wheel spinning" power, swap-in the 360.

For me, it is the fact that a Slant car is different. Since I put the different motor in the Duster, it is amazing how many people have come over to see why my Duster sounds "weird", or to tell me how good it sounds. If I had a 340 or 360 it would be just another Duster. Dennis

I have to agree with Dennis, the slant six looks (and is) unique. I haven't see any other inline engines that look like it. Reliability, easy to work on, and so many were built that parts as well as complete engines aren't hard to come by. As if that wasn't enough, I feel like I'm part of a brotherhood with all of these other slant six enthusiasts. Good people with lots of slant six knowledge. Works for me!

Hey, both my Slant 6 Darts have "wheel spinnin' power" too!

The novelty is a great thing too. Not too many people are weird enough to try building a Slant 6.

You get some weird looks when you take the 440 out of your 67 cuda and put in a slant six!!!!!!!

We have a 74 Scamp in the family, shiny black, cool wheels, Camaro seats, and a slant. The looks and comments we collect on the street are all "Wow", but with the economy /6, we feel we get the most bling for the buck.

It lives in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood, and comes out on nice weekends.
